NCAA BASKETBALL SAMPLE

Here's a representation of my NCAA Basketball play-by-play. It follows recent industry standards by being one continuous segment (full disclosure: spot breaks are telescoped out), at least eight minutes long (a snappy 11:19) and free of late-game heroics (although this game had its share, that's for sure).

A rewarding development in MY career was being part of the west virginia conference tournament network. "tournament week" at the charleston civic center arena made for looooooong days and a lot of fun. 
​IN THIS contest, FAIRMONT STATE -- THE #6 seed -- was in the midst of aN HISTORIC tournament run. the fighting falcons held off #11 west virginia state in the first round, then stunned the top-seeded university of charleston in the quarterfinals. (the golden eagles would still receive a bid to the ncaa tournament.)
up next was shepherd, another surprise semi-finalist. the 7th-seeded rams turned away #10 concord in round one, then sprang an upset on #2 seton hill -- another eventual ncaa tournament qualifier --  in the quarters. concord's affable head coach kenny osborne joins me for the call.

Fairmont State vs Shepherd                                 full game    2nd Half
the 1st half swung back and forth. after halftime, fairmont state GAINED CONTROL employing a pair of perennial pillars of post-season success -- defense and guard play.  the fighting falcons limited the rams to 37% shooting, while unleashing its backcourt of freshman kaitlyn snyder and senior ashley vavrek. the duo would end the day with a combined 55 points, and -- spoiler alert! -- vavrek would go on to earn the tournament's most valuable player award.

NCAA BB: concord at fairmont state       
Full Game, Part 1     (Pre-Game & 1st Half)
this contest came with the story lines pre-installed. first was the teams' contrasting styles -- concord was a deliberate, half-court, defense-first team with a strong front line (featuring all-american center jolysa brown) aiming for a late-season push to the #1 seed in the conference Tournament. fairmont state was smaller, quicker, and uptempo, led by guard kaitlyn snyder -- who would eventually edge brown for the conference's player of the year award. this was the rivals' second meeting of the season. in the first, snyder scored 33 points, but brown countered with a double-double of 28 points & 12 rebounds (with five blocked shots and five assists) to lift cu to an 80-72 victory. There was off-court, personal history involved, too. the head coaches -- cu's kenny osborne and fsu's steve mcdonald -- were close friends. So close, in fact, that mCdonald was the best man at osborne's wedding.

Full Game, Part 2     (Halftime & 2nd Half)
both teams shot well in the 1st half. but Fairmont state dictated the tempo, sprinting out to an early 15-point lead and a 50-45 advantage at halftime -- a disconcerting development for a lady lions squad allowing only 65 points per game. so osborne turned to steady point guard anna truckley to slow the pace, and t0 work through brown on both ends of the floor. As the half began, concord imposed its style and pulled even at 59-59. from there, the contest would see-saw down to the final buzzer, with five more ties and nine lead changes. how does it end? keep your ears open for lead change #9.
